Appalachian Research Tips from Family Tree Magazine
In the September 2011 edition of Family Tree Magazine is an article with tips for researching your Appalachian ancestors. As I have plenty of these on my dad's side of the family, I read "Mountain Climbing" by Sunny Jane Morton with interest. The historical background presented is fairly general and standard, if you are already familiar with the region's history, you won't learn anything new. However, the lists of online sources, books and repositories are extensive and will give you plenty of places to look for ancestors hiding in the hills.
Happy Hunting!
